TransTRACK, Howen, and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) Strengthen Mining Fleet Safety and Efficiency through Technology Integration

Jakarta, September 24, 2025 – TransTRACK, in collaboration with Howen from China and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), hosted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) under the theme “Empowering Mining Operation Efficiency through Fleet Technology Integration.” This event served as a strategic platform to discuss the latest innovations and strategies in mining operations, particularly on how integrated technology can enhance safety, efficiency, and productivity. In his opening remarks, Aris Pujud Kurniawan, Co-Founder & CTO of TransTRACK, emphasized the importance of leveraging IoT, AI, and data analytics in supporting the mining sector. “Safety and efficiency cannot be separated. Integrated fleet management technology enables mining companies to minimize risks, improve productivity, and ensure operational sustainability,” he said. From the regulator’s perspective, Ahmad Wildan, Senior Investigator of KNKT, highlighted that road transportation safety in the mining industry must be viewed through the lens of risk mitigation. “Safety is about avoiding exposure to accident risks. To avoid accidents, one must understand and control hazards to reduce risks. Many accidents stem from drivers who are incompetent, unfit, or undisciplined. This is where technology plays a crucial role in hazard control,” he explained. Adding a global perspective, Judy Zhu, Vice President of Sales at Howen, stressed that technology integration is the foundation for the future of the mining industry. “By combining smart sensors, telematics, and AI-based video telematics including hardware and platform, mining companies can accelerate digital transformation, improve cost efficiency, and create safer and more productive work environments.” This technological collaboration also receives strong support from industry users. PT Bukit Asam Tbk, one of TransTRACK’s loyal customers in the mining sector, shared their experience in adopting MDVR technology. Taupan Ariansyah Putra, Department Head of Mine Operation Control & Support at PT Bukit Asam Tbk, explained, “Driver fatigue remains one of the leading causes of mining incidents. Internal data shows a significant downward trend: 48% of incidents in 2023 (6 cases), 36% in 2024 (5 cases), and 21% in 2025 (3 cases) following the implementation of TransTRACK’s monitoring technology.” Furthermore, Taupan highlighted other operational challenges such as overspeeding on hauling roads, operator behavior deviating from SOPs, and limited field supervision—all of which can now be addressed with TransTRACK’s MDVR solutions through speed warning alarms, real-time video monitoring and two-way communication, GPS unit tracking, and complete video recordings as supporting evidence for incidents. “Deploying MDVR in every unit is our investment in continuous improvement and internal evaluation in the field of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). This technology serves as a preventive measure integrated with artificial intelligence (AI), enabling real-time efficiency in field monitoring. All of this is part of our effort to achieve Bukit Asam’s Zero Accident goal,” Taupan asserted. Through this FGD, TransTRACK, Howen, and KNKT reaffirmed their joint commitment to building a safer, more efficient, and sustainable mining operations ecosystem. The synergy between technology, regulators, and industry is expected to serve as a model of collaboration to advance safety and productivity transformation in Indonesia’s mining sector.
