Formula E Update: Vandoorne and Rowland Claim Victory in Two Tokyo E-Prix Races
Tokyo once again hosted the ABB FIA Formula E Championship for Rounds 8 and 9 of its 11th season through Tokyo E-Prix. With varying track conditions between the two races, Stoffel Vandoorne claimed victory on Saturday through smart strategy, while Oliver Rowland finally brought home a win for Nissan at their home race. Saturday Highlights:Maserati MSG Racing’s Stoffel Vandoorne returned to the top step of the podium after three years by winning Saturday’s Tokyo E-Prix. Starting from 14th, Vandoorne surged forward with aggressive early energy usage and became the first to deploy the rapid-charging Pit Boost. The race was red-flagged on lap 14, giving Vandoorne the edge when most drivers were still due for their Pit Boost stops. He built a commanding 20-second gap and finished ahead of championship leader Oliver Rowland and McLaren’s rookie Taylor Barnard. Sunday Highlights:After missing out on a win in Tokyo since 2024, Oliver Rowland finally brought victory to Nissan in Sunday’s Tokyo E-Prix. Starting from pole, Rowland battled Porsche’s reigning World Champion Pascal Wehrlein. Using strategic Attack Mode activations, Rowland passed Wehrlein on lap 26 and, with help from a late safety car, secured his fourth win of the season. Wehrlein finished second, while Dan Ticktum celebrated his first-ever Formula E podium with third.Following the Tokyo double-header, Rowland leads the drivers’ standings with 161 points. Nissan also tops both the team (172 pts) and manufacturers’ standings (256 pts).
